I don't think it's a publicity stunt. She was clearly hurting when she was on sunrise although she was trying to put on a brave face. I read the tweets at 4am this morning when I was up to feed my baby and I had trouble getting back to sleep. The comments were disgusting and constant.

Wow, I just read her twitter page. What an appalling representation of humanity. I can't believe people actually think that way and can say those things.

Even if she is in hospital as a publicity stunt I hope it proves the point.

    I am so disgusted.

Seriously? Saying she should have just closed her twitter account?
As is mention numerous times on this forum, the internet and social media are sometimes the only contact with the outside world. I would imagine that it is even more so for celebs, who can't walk down the street without paparazzi following them.
If this was a case of ppl following her down the road hurling abuse at her, I'm sure ppl would be jumping to her defence, saying it is cruel and unjust. This is no different IMO.
I hope she gets the help she needs and that those vile tweeters are held accountable.

Suggesting Charlotte should have just quit Twitter (or ignored it) isn't always as easy as it sounds.

I don't know why, but sometimes you are ADDICTED to reading the horrible crap people say about you. I don't know why, but I have experienced the compulsion of logging into another forum where I was talked about in a rather vile manner. It always upset me, but I'd ALWAYS go back and have a read.

These days, for some reason, their words don't bother me too much and are more amusing than anything, but there was a stage there, where I was feeling really vulnerable and down, and hated myself... and I dunno, I guess it was just another way to punish myself?

It can be really hard to simply step away and ignore it... even though that's obviously the logical and sensible thing to do.

Words really can hurt - even if they come from strangers you KNOW don't really know you... they still cut deep.

I think it's funny that we tell a bullied person to switch off and walk away - so in fact the bully wins - they've made an impact on their victim.

I've even seen people from forums hunt people down on Facebook to harras and continue an online fight.

This all goes to prove there are some very sick vindictive nasty people out there, hiding behind their keyboards loving the chance to spread their vileness.

I don't think I support the idea of victims of verbal abuse being the ones who have to log off and walk away. What does this do to stop those who are inflicting the abuse? Nothing, they just move onto the next target.

It was awful. And people banging on about freedom of speech. They actually feel justified and entitled to be so utterly cruel and awful. It was just horrible to read. I had a flick through and couldn't keep reading.

With twitter obviously it's different to Facebook? Its not like "friends only?' Is it? I don't have a twitter account but from that twitter seems to be pretty unsafe if anyone can just read and post on your page? I really don't understand twitter though.

I absolutely am all for naming and shaming of the perpetrators, it is so easy to be cruel and malicious behind a fake screen name. The most cowardly thing really. I think we should be catching people who do this kind of thing and outing them. I bet that would stop most of those people in their tracks and we'd see a huge decline in internet trolling.

Cowardly, revolting people hiding behind a screen name just sickens me!

I wonder how brave they would be in a face to face one on one discussion where they can't hide and don't have the support of the pack?!
