    Default Repromed or Fertility SA??

We are trying to decide which way to go. We live in country SA and need to travel to Adelaide for treatment. Can anyone give opinions of either clinic? My head hurts trying to figure this out!

I was set to go to Repromed but our specialist told us that they used to be the best but he is a little cynical about them now as he feels they are a 'money making venture' and some of the doctors from there have moved to Fertility SA. This could just be one man's opinion and I don't know his experiences or differences with them so I'm not taking his opinion as gospel but it has concerned me.

    ANY help much appreciated.

    Default Repromed or Fertility SA??

    Hi Nat,
Sorry to hear you have to go through IVF.
I too am from country SA, and we are with Repromed, our FS is kelton tremellen. When deciding which clinic, there was only one choice for us- Repromed. Having friends go through Ivf at Repromed was a bonus for us.
Repromed have some of the best doctors & embryologists avail, the nurses are fab and Another bonus is when it's time for egg collection they have their own day surgery upstairs, so no trip to Hospital its more discreet!
For me Repromed are brilliant, they helped us achieve our BFP which I fear if I was with another clinic we would not have achieved this as Repromed are very thorough with their investigations. I know Repromed are more expensive, but you get what you pay for and I know of some friends that started at other clinics but ended up going to Repromed as they were not getting the results.
There is an Adelaide thread, you are welcome to join. Good luck with everything!!

Thanks so much Rivergirl. A lot of what I see and read leads me to Repromed and to be honest, my specialist's comments are the only negative I'm worried about. I agree that the day surgery on site is a massive plus for me, the more discreet the better!
Can I ask how you manage IVF from the country? How many days do you spend in Adelaide? How do you manage it with work?

you know when I had to get the referal from our GP we asked for repromed and the GP wanted us to go to Fertlility SA to which I replied - no we have done our homework and we want the best!
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact they are the leaders in their field and perhaps there are some GP's that have a preference as they have colleagues that are with one or the other.
We are lucky as we are 2 hours from the city - we are in the Riverland. Blood tests are always done in my home town as repromed give me forms to take from repromed - the only down side is the results are the next day compared to same day in the city.
If your home town has a scan to check your progress and follices etc they even give you forms for that - however we chose to come to repromed for this as we still had to drive 45mins to the nearest scanning machine.
The day of egg collection, they ask that all country patients stay down the night of the procedure in case you have a bad reaction. Depending on the time of your surgery, we used to leave early in the morning and go straight to the clinic otherwise we had to go down the night before if it was early.

You will also need another day off to go back for your transfer which is usually 4 days later.

Most of the time, if I was in Adelaide, I would go and collect the drugs at the clinic, otherwise once I did have them couriered to me which was also great.

We also have doctor consultations over the phone and just go on loud speaker and it saves another trip down to adelaide.

Repromed are VERY SUPPORTIVE of country patients and tend to understand it's a little more difficult for us to get things happening.

Work wise, we are lucky as we have a family business so this is not an issue for us, but I kmow that repromed issue doctors certificates for the egg collection and transfer (they usually ask if you need one on the day of the surgery).

good luck with everything and please let me know if there is anything else you need to know!

Once again Rivergirl...THANK YOU!!! This is the best info I've got so far. We're only going to our first appt in a couple of weeks so all info is much appreciated. I can't do anything in my home town (too small and the only clinic has my boss's wife as the nurse so no privacy here) so it looks like trips to Adelaide each time. We'll make it work though. Hubby is self employed and I'll just use some of my million accrued sick days if need be. The hardest thing is privacy. I really don't want anyone in my town knowing about IVF (until after we're successful). But I suppose it's always harder in small towns.
I'm leaning towards Repromed, despite the gyn's comments. It has been my gut feeling from the start so I think I'll go with it.
I'd love to be in touch with SA girls if you can let me know where to find your thread on here. Thanks again
