Default IVF with no health insurance

Hi all, I'm wondering if others are going through IVF without private health insurance? We joined health insurance late and won't be covered for IVF until early next year. How am I covered for this in the public system??

I'm not sure if I can help but here goes.

Firstly, are you going through a private or public clinic? If you're in Sydney, I know that RPA has a public clinic.

I went private so got around half of the clinic fees back from the insurer, around $4k for the cycle.

Medicare does reimburse you for ultrasounds and blood tests outside of those that the clinic cover. But make sure you apply for the cap. I think I got back most of the cost of blood tests and around half for the ultrasounds?

I don't think Medicare covers much for IVF treatment and drugs per se. Unless you have a specific condition but I could be wrong.

Default IVF with no health insurance

We paid about 9000 thru genea, health cover only cover parts if the egg pick up and embryo implantation about $1000. Medicare covered about $6000. Only rough figures as I'm not getting out of bed to check our quote!

I was 5 months shy of being in my upgraded cover with hcf but as I have been with them for so long they fully covered me. A nice surprise!

    Hope that helps
