Default 19 weeks scan rant! Warning!

We had our scan last week and found out we are having a girl. The sonographer was very thorough and checked many times. She said you see three lines with a girl and showed us them. She also said its definitely a girl. I know it's not 100% but I'm convinced!

Sorry you didn't get a convincing answer. I would be annoyed too. You might need to do another scan.

We got told 100% with our baby boy. In fact the ob said "he has two feet but three legs", funny sense of humour that one!

Hes here and a boy...with the correct amount of legs!

Default 19 weeks scan rant! Warning!

Thanks for your replies, glad some people understand what I am saying. And I have had another scan yesterday due to cramping from car accident (I think the seatbelt caused that when I braked so hard) and the lady tried a few times but bub wasnt in a good position but bub is ok and cramping is settling down. I am happy to know that everything is fine and this lady tried her best but still gave me her indication as to what this one is but wouldn't bet her life on it in her exact words. But this was at the local hospital and not very good for pics and definately doesn't have the facilities for 3d, in fact I don't think anywhere near me does unless I travel at least a few hrs away.
And to answer some op replies yes I wanted replies but no need to answer with "that's not the purpose of the scan" I am not stupid but when someone asks if you want to know I thought they would at least try and give more than a 3 sec look.

    Hi Ally3012,

I have a friend who is an ultra sound technician and when she looked at your post her exact words were 'that is why my surgery does not do gender scanning anymore.' I think a few people had a knee jerk reaction cause I think the techs get a bad rap. I remember online a woman posted two photos one was her gender scan showing a boy...really obvious willy and then took another photo 5 seconds later when he had moved and I swear it lierally disappeared before our eyes. I would have sworn she was having a girl if I had not seen that other photo.

Sorry my point is that gender scanning is very iffy and unreliable at the best of times and I think in this day and age when repsonsibility is really held over this sort of thing that allot try to be 'oh it might be...leaning towards etc' to try to avoid woman suing or slandering their practise.

That being said I can actually completely understand how gutted you must have been, so excited to know what you are having for it to be left completely up in the air. Just try to understand it is not the techs fault!!!

Also so sorry to hear of the accident, I am very glad your bubs and daughter are ok.

sorry to hear about your car accident, hope that cramping settles down and you are feeling ok

just thought i would add a funny story.. last week we got a text from a friend saying "we would like to announce the arrival of .......... who yes, is a girl, despite a misleading ultrasound! hope she likes blue!"

we are rural too and can understand your frustration. our morph scan took 2 1/2 hours with a long walk in between because bubs was in a terrible position. it annoyed me because i couldnt get any shopping in either (which is a rare treat for me!) but what mattered most was our healthy baby. in the meantime i have been smashing bigw online shopping!

if i were you i would definately make the trip for a 3d scan, just to be sure!

Thank you for your replies. I would never sue nor slander the place I had the ultrasound for a wrong guess. I wouldn't even bother complaining about the us tech as I wouldn't want anyone to have their Job in jeopardy, I was just venting some frustration and now will be getting a surprise when bub comes. I just wanted to be a little more prepared with clothes etc.
Sorry if I have offended anyone but I was expressing my feelings.
As to pp, I have no idea what you mean by your post.

For my morph scan with dd I didn't even ask the tech if he knew what she was until the last 5 minutes. He knew but didn't say anything, I hadn't even noticed him look. Without checking again he told us he was Rather certain she was a girl and he was right. They have never told us 100% as they do need to leave room for error but yeh. Perhaps she had checked thoroughly enough to answer?

No I wasn't referring to your post in particular, really just the whole saga of it all. I edited due to spelling, I hadn't written anything nasty at all!

I can understand the frustration of not finding out baby's sex, and in turn missing out on valuable shopping opportunities, but I really think its important to keep things in perspective, we are so so lucky to have access to pre-natal care, including ultrasounds, I just think we need to spare a thought for the millions of women who can't access any care and for whom this whole thread would sound ridiculous.
