No, i'm with you. I pay if i invite people to my party. If i suggest "hey let's have dinner tomorrow" then it's not an invite and i only pay for myself. I had a small lunch at a restaurant after my wedding ceremony at the court house. invited some friends, all went well until the end they all took out their wallet and i was mortified. It's just how i was brought up.

its not just dinner at a restaurant guys its a set menu. i agree if it was just dinner at a place then of course i pay for my meal. i don't get a choice and its a set function so thats where i see it should be paid for OR say on the invite its this much per person.

im not saying she should pay for me to eat im saying if i have to pay something i should be told on the invite.

nothing against paying my way at all which some of u have taken it.

Default Party invites where u pay

Many restaurants make you have a set menu if you have more than a certain amount of people for a booking though. It's not just a matter of the birthday girl deciding that herself.

I hate set menus because I physically can't eat a single entree let alone several courses but you can just choose not to go if it's really that bad.

This is where I get the impression you don't think you have to pay.

I do agree for a set menu she should have explained what & how much etc. If you don't want to go though I'd cancel asap.

yeh i didn't think i would be paying until friend suggested she thinks we do.
i want to go and don't mind paying i just think its rude not to give a heads up to bring x amount of cash WHEN its a set menu thing she would know how much per head to let us know. but the way i got the invite suggested to me it was a function so paid for us and no word on how much.

anyway i just wanted to see what other people thought about it. i still think it should say x amount per person on the invite instead of nothing IF my friend is correct and we do have to pay

This is what I'm wondering. If it were me I'd just ask.

.... oh okay... so you're not sure?

Yeah I'd be calling and asking what's going on.

I agree with the PP and maybe you should just ask her?

I dont think its rude to ask how much you would be expected to pay, you could even ask whats included in the set menu. Surely your friend wouldnt mind.
