    Default Eczema and Products

We took my DS to a dermatologist yesterday to get his rash on his bottom checked out and she has prescripted Advantan Ointment once day after his shower, then a moisturiser (QV Intensive Body Moisturiser) 2-3 times per day and at every nappy change a zinc paste with 10% olive oil (I haven't got this yet though). Has anyone had any success with these products?
Also to me it sounds abit extreme for him to shower every day with his dry skin but it might be just because he hates to shower or bath that we don't shower him every day, usually every second or third depending on how dirty he is. Another thing is what nappy wipes do you use for eczema, we currently use the huggies one and I'm not sure if I should change them or not?

Bathing everyday is no good for eczema, i speak as someone who has suffered with it since i was a child (and pretty severely). Every second or third day is much better.
The QV moisturizer works well for me, i like the bath oil also. Zinc works okay also. Nothing is a real miracle cure for me though.
    Never tried Advantan.
I would probably just use a face washer or cloth wipe with just warm water tbh so you are not further irritating with the chemicals used in the store bought ones (when out and about it will be okay, for convenience, but at home i'd stick to cloth wipes)

I don't know about Advantan but this week we were prescribed Elocon for 2 weeks and DS is going to a paediatrician in a couple of weeks too, eczema can be a cause of weight loss for bubs and my DS is now at the 50th percentile down from the 98th.

My DS loves a bath and I think this does give him some relief, we only use QV and lather him up straight after with Redwin sorbolene all over.

I hope you find that it works, it really is horrible for them.

I don't know about the others, but i use advantan on myself for psoriasis. Is the only thing what works for me.

You should start seeing improvements by the next day if it works as good on your DS as it has for me.

Thanks MothersMilk thats what I thought, besides my DS really hates both the shower and bath and its like world war 3 when he has one. Thats a really good idea with the face washers instead of wipes. My DS goes to day care during the week (5 days) though so i'm not sure what to do there about wipes.

Thanks babyla, I hope your DS gets better quickly, nothing worse than having an unwell baby. My DS is quite small I think from the last check up he was around the 20-30% percentile and looking at him today I was thinking that he doesn't look like he has put on any weight, might get a check up at his gp during the week.

    Default Eczema and Products

My DS has awful awful eczema and nothing seems to help. We've tried everything including a dose of oral steroids and antibiotics - worked for a short time only.

We already know that tomatoes aggravate it, and just yesterday we thought eggs might be also affecting it. We're going to cut eggs out for a week and see if it helps. It would definitely be worth looking at diet - I've heard gluten can be a common cause.

I hope your DS feels better soon, you feel so sorry for them with their beautiful baby skin all itchy and dry

I found that qv wasn't doing anything for my son's eczema. We did a lot of trial and error with washing powders for his clothes. Some really aggravated it. I've started using cetaphil to mousturise him and his skin is so smooth now. He hasn't had any bad flare ups since and it only took overnight for me to see improvement, within 2/3 days it was gone. I was having to resort to cortisone prescribed cream to get rid of it before.

Good luck finding something that works for you! It took us ages.
