Default High blood sugar level in initial glucose test

So I just got the results of my 27 week glucose test. Blood sugar level was 10 and apparently should have been 7.8. I have none of the risk factors for gestational diabetes and my baby is normal size.

I have to go for the two hour test now. Does anyone have any experience with this. I really don't want diabetes!

When I was pregnant with DS my first test came back high and had to do the 2hr one and it was fine, with DD they sent me straight to the 2hr one and it too was fine. Body weight can affect it as can you ability to absorb things so it may be fine. Good luck.

Default High blood sugar level in initial glucose test

I had the 2hr test with my first baby, which came back fine and with my second baby I only did the 1hr test it came back high and I ended up going for the 2 hr one and it was fine.

I actually just got my referral for this test for my 3rd baby and was surprised to see they'd sent me straight for the 2hr test. My midwife said that the royal college of obstetrics and gynaecology have changed the recommendations to only use the 2hr test as its more accurate.

Hopefully your second test comes back fine! Good luck

Default High blood sugar level in initial glucose test

My first test came back high but only just at around 8 then I did the two hour test and it was fine, I didn't have GD but your first result is quite high so not sure if that may make a difference. Good luck

Thanks ladies. I just called up the pathology lab. I can't believe how many carbs I have to eat for next three days!

Larissa, the levels concerned me too. The OB said if it was over 11 he would say I definately had GD, but that maybe it's ok at this level. I'm not particularly optimistic at 10 though I have to say.

Thing is, I've always been fit and on the thinner side of normal weight. I've actually had issues with low blood sugar before and my father is hypoglycaemic (the opposite of diabetes). The baby is normal weight and people keep telling me the bump is really small. I eat properly. I just don't know what else I could have done.

I'm actually thinking that maybe hypoglycaemia and diabetes are just two sides of the same coin and since they are both related to issues with controlling blood sugar, one could maybe predispose you to the other.

Anyway, I should probably just stop fussing until I've actually done the test!
