I quite like it (DH loves it), but would perhaps prefer it as a nickname. The only names I can think of that can be shortened to Charlie are Charlotte and Charlize - other suggestions would be appreciated!!
Charlie is the boys version, you dont see many girl Charlie's
Charli is the girls version derfived from Charlotte
Adding the 'E' would mean the name isnt shortened for anything and her formal name would be Charlie.

I love Charli for a girls name.

I met a little girl, 6 years old, last week called Charlie who has changed her name to Ella. Her mum said to me "apparently I gave her a boys name".

She is now known as Ella at school and refuses to answer anyone in her family who calls her Charlie - but happily answers to Ella.

I think using Charlotte or Charlize gives the child the option of using their full name if they don't like Charlie.

    Default Charlie for a girl??

Love Charlie for a girl. DH loves it for a boy but is prefer to use Charlotte but call her Charlie, only thing putting me off is the popularity.
Many of the names we are considering have 'nicknames' we would like to use, and will probably be encouraged from birth when we send out an 'arrival text'- something along the lines of 'Charlotte Jennifer has arrived at x time, weighing x kg. Mum and baby Charlie are doing well.' I wouldn't rely on others to just 'get' the nickname, and I also wouldn't mind if people wanted to call her Charlotte. She can make her own decisions with it as she gets older.

    Default Charlie for a girl??

Don't like Charlie for a girls first name, doesn't really bother me as a nickname.
Don't like the idea of people seeing a name and expecting a boy then it's a girl ..
