Default How do you write and follow a budget

When your weekly income is different each week?

Recent events and low bank statements have made me think that DP and I need to write a budget out but the thing is our income is never the same each week so how would a budget actually work?
If I think I can figure things out, is that curiosity or arrogance?

I would try to base it on the lowest amount and then use any extra as buffer where needed.

Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

This what we do. It works really well for us and I think really helps with saving too if we learn to live on the lowest amount then the extra in the higher weeks is all savings or for doing something special that week.

I'm not sure. I'm going to go through all of my centrelink statements and DP's pay slips to find out.

Yep. I suggest you Base it on the lowest and create a buffer account to use for budgeted expenses only when you have an unusually low week, our unusually busy month for bills (that happens). Try to keep a few thousand in there. Then use a third account for savings.

    What they said.

DP has a high, low & medium pay weeks, but they do just repeat the cycle so we know what's coming in. What I did was write down all of our bills for the year, broken down into months, estimated how much they'll be then totaled each month. When he gets paid, I take out money for rent, loan payments, groceries, savings, fuel, spending money and then whatever is left over gets put straight into the bills account and I take that amount off the bills that are coming up on my sheet. If you get what I mean?

    Thanks everyone.

With bills we pay so much off each a week like $50 every week off the phone bill etc
