Default Whats and independant piblic school?

Isn't that a new trial the government wants to do where the principal gets to employ who ever they want , take control over their own budgets and they can get outside private funding if they need it? it's still publicly funded but the principle and parents have more control ( I think!)

I don't get how that's much different to a private school, is the main difference that parents don't pay fees?

My kids attend an independent school ( it became one last year) and we still have the state voluntary fees but it is more that the school gets to decide how their budget is spent and which teachers and staff they employ. As for everything else there is no difference to a non independent school that I have seen so far.

I think they still get the same funding but have more control over what to do with it, but at the end of the day is still a government run school , I think from what I read the teachers are not to keen on it though or if you get a bad principle they can really muck up the school!

They're called 'Charter Schools' elsewhere and have been generally a failure, NZ is looking at introducing them.

I'm not actually sure about how I feel about them, but I would like to see how they'll differ from the not so good attempts at it.

My mum is a state school teacher and doesn't really like them.. as some principals can make a real mess of it.

We have a high school like that. It is definitely the best pblic high school I have seen. They have more subjects, more extr curricular activities and more support staff than any other and would be my choice if we went public.
