I use dove on my face as a cleanser, and body wash (usually a milk and honey one) for the rest of me.

Do other people use a cloth to apply body wash or just smear it around?
I use one of those sponge/loofah things with body wash.

Soap is really alkaline... our bodies are acidic. Soap and our bodies are a completely different pH... and usually you'll only use such extreme pH changes during pretty intense beauty treatments! Soap is 1 pH level away from being the same as bleach. You wouldn't wash yourself in bleach, so if you want to take care of your skin, you shouldn't wash your body with soap.

Mosy body washes will be pH balanced and more appropriate for skin use.

Isn't it the best? lol I'm a soap snob, plus I have really sensitive skin and get itchy from anything but dove. I wash my face with dove on a face washer and it's sooo soft and clean, then I apply moisturiser. I have like 10 cakes of it in my vanity for fear of running out
