We mostly use a vegetable based soap.

My partner complains of red dry skin on his hands from using detergent based body washes.

We only use soap free organic body wash here as i'm allergic to soap.

I just rub some wash onto my hands rub them together and rub it where its needed. the kids just get bathed in water with absolutely nothing added although occasionally we do put some himalyan bath crystals in the water

I'm exactly the same as you OP! I just can't seem to trust body wash to actually clean me, although I always use it on my kids. I know it's silly, I should try to ween myself...

Do other people use a cloth to apply body wash or just smear it around?

ETA I just saw my typo... Ween. I'm dying a little.

    Sukin Body wash here.
Won't buy anything with sodium laurel sulfate in it. Nasty stuff. Check your ingrediants as most body washes have it.
