    Default 8yr old girl - present ideas

    So I've had no experience with buying presents for this age bracket and need some help please!

    We haven't been close to this side of DH's family, which they are all trying to make an effort with now which is great (it's his niece). So all I really know is she is a great basketball player, no idea what other things she is in to yet.

    So any ideas please? Budget of $30-40. TIA.

    * Movie tickets
    * tshirt from surf shop
    * body wash pack/soaps etc.
    * any of those kits to make your own jewllery, lip gloss etc.
    * stuff from smiggle
    * scoobies (they are making a come back at the moment).

    Thats all I can think of...

    We just had DHs cousins 8th birthday and got her a necklace/beading set.
    You can get them for all different ages and this one was for 8+. She is into crafty stuff and pretty stuff so it was kind of a no brainer present.

    Most 8 yr olds we know are into making friendship bracelets, necklaces, pretty stuff, etc. but I always like to buy 'doing' presents rather than just another toy or doll or something. (I never buy make up or more grown up stuff thats marketed at kids either because I hate it when my kids get that sort of stuff so maybe keep that in mind)

    Thanks ladies
    I like the idea of the necklace/bracelet set. Is that something from a specialty store or Kmart/Target?

    We got ours from toyworld but they have then pretty much everywhere I think. Might just be better quality from a specialty/toy store.
