Default Should I put a stop to this

I'd personally get her to stop it . I think it's ALOT on the body and if she was already abit off colour beforehand .

I tried to do it every year from year seven to year ten and im ashamed to say I never made it past 24 hours max. Even with barley sugar I just felt terrible . Terrible physically , terribly mentally because I couldnt finish yet some people didnt have the choice to just go get something to eat like I did :-(

What a beautiful little soul though for wanting to stick it out .
    Xxoo

    They used to recommend 12
Hour famines for kids under 16?
    Do they still recommend that?

I think it's a ridiculous concept for kids to take part in It puts an unecessary and dangerous strain on the body. It's even worse if the kid is going to school... How are you supposed to concentrate if you are hungry?

There are plenty of other (healthier) admirable ways for kids to help those in need.

If your kid isn't well put a stop to it!

She has decided to keep going, she is feeling a lot better and knows her body better than me but had promised to stop the minute she feels unwell again

You ARE kidding right? It's 40 hours! Not 40 days.

Am I the only person here who gets the fact that the 40 hour famine is to give us extremely privileged westerners a teeny tiny idea of what it must be like to literally starve?

I've also heard there are other things you can give up... no phone, no internet, no music, no bed (still sleeping, just not in a bed). All probably much better for her...
I must agree, it seems to target school age kids, who truly shouldn't be starving themselves. Sooo many other ways to do it... Who even organizes this?? They shouldn't take it to schools!

I get it too!! I used to love doing it when I was younger, getting people to sponser me... Made me feel extremely lucky to live in a privileged country like what we do. 40 hours is nothing compared to what these people feel everyday!
OP I'm glad she is feeling better, good luck to her from me, I hope she makes it, it really is a proud moment (well bittersweet really but I was always proud of myself) xx

I am quite against the 40 hour famine. I did it at that age and came very close to collapsing. I think there are other ways to donate to this worthwhile cause and I would gently lead her towards something else (like the idea WCM suggested).
