Coming from an Italian family, Im used to it. I feel bad when people come over and I have nothing to offer them!
Also, unlike PPs experience with Italians, we never b!tch about people eating the food we offered them once they have left.

    Wow, that's amazing!

We went to Romania last year (my grandma was Romanian and granddad was Hungarian), and they had the most amazing Hungarian restaurants there and there's a lot of similarity in foods anyway. The bakeries there were absolutely amazing! They have these little hole in the wall bakeries that sell gomboc and the most amazing cakes and pastries. Can you imagine buying these all amazing cakes from your suburban bakery?

I love old Italians and Greeks.

A good old puppy eyes and a "wish I hadn't skipped lunch" does WONDERS.

Before you know it you're drowning in bacon and fresh lasagne and tiramisu and canneloni and mushrooms and chicken and carbonara and oh my god I'm so hungry.

There should be a Dial-A-Euro, where grandchild-less old euro ladies cook meals for you and home deliver them

Grandchild-less Euro ladies are unheard of...or hiding in shame. But, YES, that service would be awesome! I ordered pasta from a takeaway place and my mum dropped by unannounced...she was soo annoyed at me for spending money on a pasta meal when I should have made it myself!

Now she's still like that with DH..... but with me she'll give me like a lettuce leaf and a slice of cucumber and go "*sniff* here Gret that's all you need."

    aaah...... thanks? lol

It must be a bit of a MIL thing, my ex-MIL was always trying to give me more food, she would literally have plates and plates of it just for me! She's not European though lol.
