    Default Is Gumtree any good?

We need to buy a few bits of furniture (they don't need to be new) and I was wondering if Gumtree is any good. Anyone used it and have any comments?

    TIA

I've only bought something off Gumtree once but was a good experience. I've just discovered buy and sell pages on Facebook for my local area and these seem to be a treasure trove of bargains...might be worth checking if there are any of these for your area too!

Cool, thanks I'm just having a look at Gumtree now and it looks pretty straight forward. Are there any 'catches' I should be aware of?

I have heard some people mention scammers...but I think that was more when they were trying to sell stuff. Just make sure you can view the item before buying...and I would be wary of anyone wanting you to transfer cash through bank account or anything like that.

Gumtree is great and there aren't catches - just be wary of people trying to do dodgy things with payments.

If in doubt check scam watch or google it.

I just bought some stuff off gumtree, very happy with it, I guess it just depends - make sure you check it out before you exchange money.

Is it like eBay where you have to pay before seeing the goods? Or is it like the Trading Post, where you contact the seller and ask to come over and look at the item first?

Man, why do dodgy people have to ruin things for everyone else?

You ask to go and see it first, which I guess can be dangerous in itself. But - I really like it, no auctions or anything, just people trying to sell their stuff. It is good.
