Default Canberra - Useless GP & Scan enquiry

    Hi

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and had my 2nd doc appointment yesterday with my gp, I am going public. I go to Wentworth practise in Kingston, and she is bl00dy usless. can anyone recommend a new surgery in south of Canberra with a good pregnancy doctor?

She hasn’t been very helpful at all in regards to information. I am originally from England and everything is so different here. I have researched loads of pregnancy stuff myself but if I didn’t ask her stuff then it seems like she wouldn’t have voluntarily told me some of the info that i have already researched so if i hadn’t of looked around beforehand, i would been none the wiser.

Anyway, she gave me the number for Calvary hospital (she said they don’t charge for scans) so that i can book my first scan next month. When i spoke to them i was told that they don’t do the 12 week scan (DS screening). So i called back the surgery asking for more numbers of places that do the scans and was told someone would call me back. Half a day later, I called them back as no one called me and explained again what happened and she gave me a number. I called the number and it rang and rang... So i researched some scan places myself and it seems you cant get the 12 week scan free in Canberra - is that correct??

I called the doctor back and asked for more numbers that actually work and was given 2 numbers which are for the Canberra Imaging company which i had found myself so I have booked myself in at the Deakin centre.

Its going to cost $359.50 (with the bloods extra I think?)

Is this normal? Have you had a free scan in Canberra?
Or do you have to pay this much money? I will get $59.50 back apparently.

I look forward to your responses, my doctor is stressing me out with her uselessness and this is supposed to be a happy time!

    Thanks
    x

In a lot of places they don't do the 12 week scan free anymore. The gov was trying to save money and put a stop to it. Sorry I can't help you with anything else I'm in qld

im not in canberra, im in Qld, but omg, that is too much!!!!! my suggestion is go to a new gp, and hopefully they will put you on the right track. i just know that that amount is totally too much for a public patient.

Book into a hospital (either Canberra or Calvary) for your pregnancy care. They will handle most of it...I never do the 12 week scan so can't help you there. The 20 week at Calvary is free though!
