    Default Breastfeeding Food Restrictions?

    Hi ladies,

This might sound like a really stupid question but when breastfeeding are u allowed to eat the food that was restricted during pregnancy? Like Ham, soft cheese & sushi etc or is there still a risk of passing on any potential listeria?

No need to avoid foods but sometimes you may find that bub reacts to certain things you have like chocolate, caffeine etc. A Mum in my DIG cannot have ham at all because it upsets her boys tummy. But you'll likely notice as you go along if certain foods are affecting bub. Otherwise I just eat anything.

I ate whatever I felt like (except alcohol). But my sister has recently cut out onion, broccoli, cabbage, and a few other things on the recommendation of a naturopath and it had helped a lot with her ds in terms of being more settled and wind pain

Yep, no food restrictions, but medicines are still an issue. But, if some med's are ok when breastfeeding, but not when pregnant, so check with your GP/chemist.

    Default Breastfeeding Food Restrictions?

Thanks so much for the replies ladies, I thought that was the case but wanted to double check :-)

I'll be getting DH or my mum to bring me a giant Ham & Camembert sandwich the day I give birth :-)

I eat anything too. But as a previous poster said, just be careful with some things.
Too many tomatoes gave my bub an upset tummy cause of all the acid.
Also, if you are a Chilli or spicy food person, be careful

    Mmmmmm ham and Camembert! Hehe

    Default Breastfeeding Food Restrictions?

The deli restrictions are lifted but some foods can upset bubs as others said.

My little one gets an upset tum if I eat onions and chilli. Some other foods I can eat but only small quantities. I miss onions so much.
