Thank you everyone for the wonderful ideas.

I've sent my friend off a box with a lovely a4 note book, a bottle of jim beam, a pack of smokes and lighter (she's a smoker and loves her beam on occassion, I know not the most sensible gift but she will get use of them!!) and a bottle of womens multivitamins.
I wrote a little note saying i dont have words, but to know that i am here for her for anything she needs.

I will be going to the funeral, i will take along a special toy and a few woolies gift cards, and i might order her some online groceries this week.
If there is no wind, row.

I think bubmum's comment is a good one. Often people don't know what to say or do when a friend goes through grief, so they say nothing, or might say something initially then they fade into the background. You're already doing a fantastic job of talking to her, thinking of her and sending her stuff. I don't think the 'stuff' actually matters so much as the thought that you care. She will have a rough road ahead, so stay in touch and it might be good that you're not close by as she might be more open with you on the phone than she might feel comfortable doing in person.

The US Toy of the Year is now in Australia. CloudB's Tranquil Turtle will definitely be a family favourite. Projecting gentle underwater images and playing the soothing sounds of the sea makes for a super serene sleep space.
