Default Reflux flaring up in the evening

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone's bub has had a reflux flare up around the 6 month mark?

The past week or so DD's reflux keeps flaring up from 6pm onwards. She has episodes where she'll silent reflux and choke then scream for 5min or so but then within a few min later she's refluxing again. It goes like this over and over again for 1-2hrs at a time. She's currently on 10mg of Losec a day and in the evenings ive been topping up with 2mls of Mylanta but even this doesn''t always work. She's also crying in her sleep and often wakes herself up and won't go back to sleep unless i cuddle and rock her (when normally she'll just go back to sleep on her own)...im so tired from waking up multiple times at night (no idea how i did it with a newborn lol!)

Any ideas? or has anyone else gone through this?

    Hi Chelle,

Losec is quite weight sensitive so it might be time to go back to the doc for a slight increase. In the mean time you could consider splitting the dose (5ml morning, 5 ml night) for longer coverage. Suspect you're giving it to her as she goes to bed so the evening screaming is probably when she's both most tired and her drug's effectiveness is at it's lowest?

Thanks for replying Jo. Her dosage is at the max the paed is willing to go with her weight. He said normally he'd recommend combining Losec with a dose of Zantac but unfortunately my DD reacts to Zantac so it's not an option. She has her full dose at midday but my CHN did also suggest splitting up her dose and giving it to her twice a day instead 12hrs apart so i'm going to start trying that as neither of us are getting a good nights sleep and she used to be such a great sleeper when it was under control (12hrs straight at night). I'm also topping her up with 2mls of Mylanta before bed but that doesn't last long and tbh isn't a great long term option. I really hope something works as im walking around like a zombie and being a single mum it's not like i can pass her on to someone else in the middle of the night lol!

Ewww... sounds horribly familiar. If the paed's not willing to go higher on dosage, I'd ask for a referral to a paed gastro. There are other options available to those specialists. They're just really hard to get into!
