Ohhh I really wish I held onto the article about the hunger strikes. A man actually commited suicide because he was deemed safe to be released and he had done everything right but he was not informed and spent another 8 months in the depressing institution when he had done absolutely nothing wrong. He wrote an incredibly sad goodbye letter and his family will never recover.

Are you serious? The majority of them are genuine asylum seekers! It's very rare they're not genuine!

They protest because they get treated like criminals and second class citizens...

Where on earth do you get your information from?

What is wrong with that? Indonesia has no obligation to help them and every right to send them back to where they have escaped from. It is notoriously slow with processing them and often does so incorrectly. Read the other article I posted for more info.
They don't want to be picked up by Indonesia because Indonesia will not help them, Australia will. I don't see the problem you're getting at?

When you say media, do you mean news limited propaganda? It's the least credible, most biased news source ever....

    90-95% are genuine!

And yet again, people forget or just don't know (because the media happen to omit from their news) that more people arrive "illegally" by plane!

I've never seen a thread on here about "illegal" plane people!

I'll be honest and say I wouldn't want to be picked up Indonesia either. Indonesia does not have the resources or framework in place to deal with asylum seekers. They are not signatories to the international refugee convention, and they do not have refugee legislation.

I don't think being abrasive and nasty about BlossumPossum's ignorance on this topic is really going to make them receptive.

I know I'm abrasive often, but this is an opportunity to educate someone on something really important and she seems quite receptive.

Surprise surprise, there are a**hole refugees. Let us judge all refugees on this basis, because we have no locally grown a**holes of our own. No, none at all.

The media paints an awful picture I agree, but there is so much more to it. It's great you are open minded enough to look further than what news outlets and current affairs programs try to shove down our throats.
