Default 5 weeks pregnant, symptoms gone and doc saw no baby or sac

I had my first visit with my OB/GYN on Monday. He did an external scan, but couldn'y see anything at all (no sac).
My symptoms had also started to go away since the middle last week.
He did a blood test on Monday and said yesterday that the results were what he would expect for 5-6 weeks.
But concerned with no visual and my disappearing symptoms.
We had a miscarriage at 9 weeks in January, and I am terrified this is happening again. In January, I had bleeding and then severe pain.
He thought it might be ectopic and keeps asking if I've had any pain. No pain and no bleeding.
I had another blood test this morning, just waiting for him to call but I'm scared and would like to know if this happened to anyone else and they still had a viable pregnancy?
    Thanks!

I haven't been there so hugs, but I would have expected an internal ultrasound would be more accurate that early. I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks and they said that had to be internal as the other was too hard to see.
