    Default Renters, rent inspection question..

How much effort do you go to for a rent inspection?

I'm usually lucky in that hubby will be home in the days leading up to one so I can get everything done at the same time but this time he is away and I've got a teething baby and DS1 has a virus! I've managed to get everything bar the oven and windows done but I just know they will pick on them and make a deal over it plus we haven't weeded but I had the gardens and lawn sprayed the other day for weeds (I have a receipt for this though).

So do you go all out or do you not even bother? Just do the basics?

We do the basics, just keep the place clean & tidy. They are there to make sure you're not damaging the property .. & that's what they see! I never clean windows etc!

I do everything, walls, shower, windows, oven, garden.

You can bet if I dont I'll get a letter about it. It annoys me though because our house was filthy when we moved in.

The house we are in I just make sure it's tidy- dishes done, no toys laying around, beds made and rooms tidy. It's my uncles house so we don't go to a huge amount of effort for inspections. The place looks tidy but lived in. It's being renovated anyway so my uncle isn't too fussed if there is marks on the wall etc.

When we have a normal rental I go to more trouble. I wash as many marks etc off walls as I can, and pretty much make sure the house looks immaculate (as best I can with little kids).

I use to go all out and clean absolutely everything. These days i'm more relaxed. I make sure all the basics are done like vacuuming, mopping, mow the lawn, etc..
I couldn't care less if there is unfolded washing sitting in a basket, beds aren't made, dishes we just ate off in the sink, etc..
If it doesn't impact on the house they really have no right to say anything.

This is what hubby says but they will write 'untidy' if the bed isn't made or if we have just made lunch in the kitchen it's so frustrating!

We usually get a list with our notice of inspection of what they want done. We had one last Thursday, which was right in the middle of this swing and I hadn't weeded the back gardens, I tried so many times but the baby would start crying each time. I just explained to our PM that they werent done but we'd been sick and I was getting someone in to do it this week. She was happy with that. I'd just clean the obvious marks off the windows. How bad is the oven? Can you give it a quick wipe over and then chuck something in it to cook for when they're there tomorrow. Maybe they won't open it to have a good look if you're using it?
