Default Downs Syndrome test - Adelaide

    Hi,
I am going to get this done but I am unsure of the process.

Do I see my GP and get a referral? or will it be done at my first antenatal appointment?

Im going through the public system.

This test is done around 12 weeks. It is part of comprehensive testing for combined trisomy risks. Blood tests and an NT scan (google will explain) will be done. You will need a referral from your GP or OB as it is not a compulsory test.

    Hope that helps a little

Which hospital are you going through OP? I'm in SA too and think that you will need to go through a separate/private ultrasound clinic and blood clinic (IMVS or the like) your GP should advise places close by

I'm going thru Flinders, and have been advised that they don't perform the NT scan/bloods there as it's an 'optional' thing. I got a referral from my GP when I got the results of my dating scan. I'm having the it done at Bensons, and I think you can get the bloods done at any pathology place - they all get sent to WCH labs, I'll probably get mine done there straight after the scan. You do have to pay upfront for the scan, and you get a portion back from medicare I think.

Im in adelaide too, had my bloods done at my GP and scan done at Jones & Partners (referal from GP for the scan). I think from memory the scan set me back around $160 and i think i got about half back from medicare.

I'm in adelaide. I got the bloods done first through Clinpath and then the NT done at Sound Diagnostics where they gave the combined results to me immediately after the ultrasound. You do need referrals from your GP or OB though for both.
