Default Are cushion booster seats illegal?

as the title says, are the cushion booster seats illegal? A colleague at work has one she wants to give to me as a backup for friends children who are old enough etc. But i think i offended her as straight off the cuff i said "i thought they were illegal"

can anyone point me in the right direction for this? websites etc so i can make a more informed choice etc.

Do you mean the ones that are just the seat part? They're sold at baby stores, I'm pretty sure they're legal! Obviously you don't get the head protection like you do in other booster seats, but at least they're safer than no booster at all.

i'm confused cos when i went to a baby shop recently to look at a new seat for bub to be, i got talking to her about booster seats etc. DS is in a meridian ahr maxi rider and i was thinkinh of getting him a hiliner for mums car and we got onto the topic of cushion boosters and i'm so sure she said they were now illegal to buy.
Its just that i'm sure with me being on mat leave soon, i might be called on to pickup/dropoff for others etc.

Baby stores are phasing them out, but at this stage they are legal. Not my choice, I would use the Infa Secure or SnS Hi Liner myself.

DH wanted to get one for his ute but they wouldn't sell him one as they said they are illegal UNLESS no other booster fits (like perhaps with 3 carseats across the back.) I haven't looked into it personally (I never liked them anyway) but that's what we were told.
