Default Old wives tales re:conceiving certain sex.

I'm suprised there isn't a sticky on this?!?!

A friend & DH are about to start TTC and they really want another girl. (name picked out & all)

Do you know any old wives tales on how to conceive a certain sex?

    Foods?
    Positions?
    Time of day?
    Time of the month?
    Etc etc etc

I have a 2yo DD and I'm convinced we conceived her by DTD a few days before Ovulation because I'm under the impression little boy sperm swim fast but die quickly (within 24 hours) but little girl sperm swim slower but can live up to 5 days in the uterus..

Is this true? Or an old wives tale?

Obviously they're not going to medically sex select or terminate a boy, so really want to give a good (natural) go to get a girl.

    Thanx

I've heard dairy and citrus = girl foods, as well as DTD a few days before ovulation but not the day of.

X sperm prefer an acidic environment and Y sperm prefer an alkaline environment.

But I really think it's mostly just luck of the draw!

There are all sorts of things which supposedly increase chances one way or another. As far as I know though, none of them have ANY research that backs them up (including the more recent ones of timing etc.).

It also seems highly unlikely that there'd be any consistent difference between the two given that there's such a minor difference between X and Y sperm compared to all the other differences between individual sperm.
