Default Spring or foam mattress for toddler?

I'm about to move my 22 mth old into a big girl bed, as I'll need the cot for bub#2 in 4 mths time. We're getting her a racing car single bed, and have been recommended to buy a 4inch foam mattress to maximize the height of the sides (so she doesn't roll out)

I've only ever bought innerspring mattresses- even have one in her crib right now. Are foam mattresses any good?

I would be going for the comfort/support of a innerspring mattress. I would not want to sleep on a foam mattress every night so would not expect my children to, if the bed is not suitable for a innerspring mattress then I would be looking at different beds, maybe a toddler bed so she can use the same mattress or a nice single bed with maybe a side rail till she is use to the big bed. Maybe though try a innerspring in it to see how it fits, I would also think that if it's a slat based bed then the foam mattress would need to be just as thick as a innerspring as to not feel the slats.

I agree with millsmum and would be getting an innerspring. Foam mattresses are horrid whether you are small or not.
Aren't racing car beds really low to the ground anyway?
