No matter what, somewhere, someone, will think you're selfish and not putting your kids first!

Obviously takes time away from the children Share a book - on account of them not being there. Which is the actual point!

Maybe they should get a life - or stop looking at forums on the internet and spend more time with their child/children

Well doing my course took time away from my child, as he was in daycare for two days a week in order for me to do it; and I guess you could say money away as I was spending $60 a week just on fuel.....but the child care was beneficial for him and his speechie recommended it, and finances were still okay, we just had to cut down on luxuries. So I suppose it was selfish of me to do my course? *shrugs*

Wow, looks like I have to explain! Obviously I don't mean just a few hours per week, I mean cutting into time and money they need. Sorry for assuming people had common sense.

I do plenty of things that take time and money 'away' from my child, that doesn't make me selfish, it just makes me not a martyr.

Yes, this. I keep expecting it, but for some reason some people just fail to use it, again and again and again.

I left my stable, part time job because I was miserable and took on a 12 month contract full time with probably no opportunity to continue after the 12 months.

DD has less time with me, I may be unemployed in 6 months, but I am personally happier and more fulfilled on a day to day basis.

    Selfish?

No they don't, they just don't want to be continually judged for every tiny little thing.
