I don't know why or when, but yes, apparently 'cray cray' is crazy...

Just think it needs to be pointed out, there is a difference between going through a tough time and sharing that, and trying to outdo others with your misfortune. You can ask for support, most people are happy to give it. The stuff the op is talking about isn't sharing or asking for support. It is a weird form of bragging. The person dismisses whatever happened to you and tells you why what happened to them is worse. VERY different. So if you really are going through stuff this isn't about you. Dont take it personally.

I'm am a serial offender on BH. I always over share my misfortune in other peoples threads.

I never ever ever would've thought it would be seen as being 'competitive'

I mean, don't get me wrong, I LOVE rehashing all the cr@p life has thrown at me and airing my dirty laundry.. It's certinally not because I am trying to make anyone feel they are not alone, or there is someone who understands or anything..

And I've never thought anyone sharing in my threads was being competitive either.

IRL I have a number of people I can't vent to. It always becomes all about them & one in particular doesn't even hear what I say & changes the subject like I was chatting about the weather.

    That is frustrating & rude.

Andrew, personally I don't even necessarily see oversharing a problem in the middle of a discussion as being competitive. Perhaps empathising?

What I mean, and pretty sure what the OP is talking about, is when somebody talks about their problem and is dismissed - as in "oh who cares about your problems TRY THIS [insert personal problems here]. I have it heaps worse!"

I found that in mothers groups with "my baby teethed earlier than yours" or "I get less sleep than you" conversations. Meanwhile, the poor frazzled mum with a non-sleeping 2yo, a teething 6mo and horrendous morning sickness is simply too tired to join in lol.

Yup.....me too. I always share my experiences in threads so the people know they arent alone.
Like I have clarified a heap of times in this thread, the OP meant IRL and not on BH, just like you mentioned in the last bit of your post.

Don't even get me started on who works the hardest. I've given up indulging in such conversations. If somebody thinks I spend my evenings sitting around sipping mojitos that is fine by me. Oh, she works until 1 am and then is up with 3 under 2... could be worse. Could be me!
