I'm sorry he was rude to you but I see his point. I run a business and understand the frustrations of it - maybe you were the straw that broke the camels back for him. It doesn't excuse his behavior but if there is a cost for what you were doing then you should pay it.

OP I think he was incredibly rude to you. He could have approached you and told you not to hand out your flyers for whatever reason. He didn't need to be an ahole about it.

I don't know what the procedures are at those kinds of things so I too could easily make the same mistake and I would not expect to be treated that way.

FWIW I don't think he has any right to invoice you, but I do think he had a right to ask you nicely not to hand out flyers without first paying for a stall etc. He went about it all the wrong way.

I hate rudeness, I just find it so unneccessary but is there a chance that he was being rude as a reaction to what he perceived as rudeness by you, even though you weren't intending to be rude iykwim (handing out fliers at his place of business without asking permission or paying the fee?)

This is exactly my point. I honestly didnt think it would be a problem...i now know not to do it again and i wont.
It was just the way he spoke to me that upset me. He didnt need to speak to me that way.

The original poster didnt state anything about being charged and trying to get away with handing out her fliers for free, it was the fact that a man was being an *** to her, stop twisting her words.

If i knew i had to pay i wouldnt have gone and handed them out.

Was there any signs saying you couldnt hand out flyers? He has no grounds to send you an invoice - he should have politely said something like "people pay to be here so you can't hand out flyers" and you would have stopped. No need to be rude as it will hurt his business - you definitely won't get a stall there.

He sounded rude, was not necessary. You probably had good intentions. I'd be taken aback. Without knowing the rules of trading in the marketplace, how were you to know?

Who is that man anyway? Without initial warning or an agreement on price I'd just dump his invoice into the bin or go to fair trading.
