Default DVD players on the ceiling of the car

Has anyone had one installed? How much did the installation cost? Thanks!

Our car just came with one and we have never used it but the kids pulled it down one day when we were driving and it completely blocks your vision from your rear vision mirror. Just something to think about depending on what your reason is for wanting to use it (I don't like tv in the car personally which is why we've never used it).

Have u thought about getting portable car DVD players that can attach to the headrests of seats in front? They're pretty cheap and I love that u can take them with you out of the car if need be.

We have a massive van so it will go just behind our heads and all the kids should be able to see it at one (especially the ones in the back row.) We don't have TV at home (out of choice) but live in a little country town so we do alot of long trips.

Yep, we have them but with 5 kids it would be goodo to have something bigger and higher that they can all see at once We have gone through a few of those portable ones and the little plugs seem to get broken easily from taking them in and out of the car. Thanks though xo

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was judging you for wanting a DVD player installed in the car...just meant that I couldn't tell you any more about it in terms of quality etc. except that it completely blocks our view. I really didn't express myself well then...been a big day, so sorry!

We have one in our pajero and it does not block my view at all so I think it would depend on the car.

They aren't all that difficult to install. The main issue is loosening the headliner enough to run cables through, but it won't take a decent installer much longer than an hour or so.

I considered flip down monitors for my van, but I ended up going with headrest DVD players instead. I bought two pairs of replacement headrests which had monitors and DVD players built in, so installation was just a matter of taking the existing headrests out, putting the new headrests in, and then running power and earth wires underneath the carpet. They too me maybe an hour and a half to install all four.

I chose this path because it meant that all four seats could watch four different DVDs, so there was no arguing or compromise. When we go on long trips (we drive 15 hours each way on holiday each year, plus a few other trips) the wifey can sit in the back as well and watch something she likes while the kids are occupied in the back row. The DVD players came with IR headphones, so the noise from the movies doesn't bother me while I drive.

Mine are 9" screens, and cost about $220 for a pair.
