    Default Blog: Music classes for kids in Perth: Part 2 - South of the River

    Music is great for kids of all ages and in case you missed it, researchers have found that one-year old children who participated in interactive music classes with their parents smiled more, communicated better and showed earlier and more sophisticated brain responses to music. And if you're living south of the river and wondering where to take your little one/s for some musical fun then please read on! As per my post about classes north of the river, this is not an exhaustive list so if I’ve missed out your local class please comment at the end of the blog to let me know and I’ll add it in! Part 2 - South of the River Baby Sensory (http://www.babysensory.com/au/Default.aspx) and Toddler Sense (http://www.babysensory.com/au/Sample_Session.aspx ) Locations: Beeliar, Secret Harbour Age range: birth – 13 months, 13-18 months, 18 months – 3 years. About: Baby Sensory (birth-13 months) uses music as well as other sensory experiences including bubbles, fibre optic lights, baby signing, puppet shows and more so that every week in the first year your baby has a new sensory experience in class. New Explorers (13-18 months) and Adventurers (18 months-3 years) are guided on adventures to the stars, through the jungle, underwater and to different places around the world with a series of short, dynamic and fun activities. Payment: Term-by-term basis Cottage School of Music (http://www.cottageschoolofmusic.com/index.html) Location: Brentwood Age range: 2-5 years and 5-12 years. About: ‘Music is for life’ is the motto of this school and through a magical combination of singing, movement, story-telling and constant interaction music themes are introduced, explored and enjoyed by the younger children, while the primary aged children explore the fundamental elements of music through games, singing, rhythm, improvisation, listening, movement and dance. Payment: Term-by-term basis Early Learning through Music (http://www.earlychildhoodmusic.com.au/) Location: Scotch College Age range: 2-3 years, 3-4 years, 4-5 years, About: Taught by qualified music educators, weekly classes are sequential and follow a developmental programme that is suited to the needs and capabilities of each child. Within each lesson the children participate in activities that involve listening, moving, singing, playing and dancing. Payment: Term-by-term basis Forte School of Music (http://www.fortemusic.com.au/canning-vale/) Location: Canningvale Age range: 6-18 months, 18 months – 2 ½ years, 2 ½ years + About: Babies and younger children are introduced to a range of sensory experiences including silk parachutes, scarves, puppets and more while playing fun games and experiencing music and musical concepts such as fast/slow and soft/loud. Payment: Term-by-term basis Kindy Dance Time (http://www.kindydancetime.com.au/) Locations: Applecross, Atwell, Beeliar, Canningvale, Palmyra, Rossmoyne and South Perth Age range: 2- 5 years About: Kindy Dance Time is a gentle and fun introduction to dance and music and enourages imaginative play and learning. A wide range of music is used and the emphasis is on fun! Payment: Term-by-term basis The Music Kindy (http://www.themusickindy.com/) Location: Booragoon Age range: 18 months – 3 years, 3-4 years, 4-5 years, 5-6 ½ years About: The Music Kindy offer early childhood music programs designed for different ages and groups. Younger children experience percussion instruments, story-telling, listening games, puppets and props with music and older children are introduced to composers, reading music and learning instruments. Payment: Term-by-term basis Suzuki Early Childhood Education (http://www.suzukimusicwa.com.au/earlychildhood.htm) Locations: East Fremantle and Canningvale Age range: Birth to 3 years About: "Nursery rhymes and chants are used as a stimulus for movement, singing and percussion playing. Parents are encouraged to observe and respond to their children as they develop new skills in an un-pressured and stimulating learning environment. Classes not only prepare children to learn an instrument with a Suzuki teacher, but also develop a foundation for all learning experiences." Music for Kids is run for 5-8 year olds and includes a giant keyboard to jump on and a wide range of instruments to try and learn and have fun with. Piano, guitar and vocal lessons are available for 8+ years Payment: Term-by-term basis Yamaha Music Education (http://www.yamahamusicschool.com.au/) Location: Canningvale Age range: 3.5 years - adulthood About: Yamaha offers a Music Wonderland course for beginners from 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 years old exploring music through singing, movement and playing musical instruments (http://www.yamahamusicschool.com.au/...ic-wonderland/), as well as a Junior Music course from 4 1/2 - 6 1/2 years bringing in the reading and writing of notes as well as singing, movement and playing instruments (http://www.yamahamusicschool.com.au/.../junior-music/).     Both my kids go to Forte (ages 7 and 4.5). The programme is structured fantastically, and the kids have progressed wonderfully.
