I believe in evolution so I believe it's there for a reason.

I also want to respect and observe DS's bodily autonomy (which I believe RIC doesn't do).

I was watching a debate recently where the subject of ric came up and one of the people stated that in one year there had been 200 deaths or serious infections due to ric in the USA. I don't have any references for this but I could, if needed, find the video clip again. (The person was a prominant author and journalist, Christopher Hitchens.) I'm sorry but I just couldn't subject my child to an unnecessary procedure that permanently changes his body and subject him to such a risk (although small probability), all without his consent.

That is an interesting point. The human penis is unique compared with other primates in several ways:
    • It has the most simplified anatomy. In particular, it has neither a penile bone (os baculum) to assist in maintaining tumescence nor enervated papula to promote rapid (ie less than one minute) ejaculation.
    • The human penis is the largest among the primates, the next being the chimpanzee at 8cm erect.
    • Human males have the longest foreskin with the most fine-touch nerve receptors.

Now it's also the case that the human female is the only primate to experience orgasm.

All of these features, taken together, suggest that human sexual anatomy evolved to promote pair bonding (rare among primates) by making sexual congress a mutually enjoyable activity rather than a mere biological necessity or instinct. And the foreskin is clearly a part of that picture.

I come from France and it is def not the norm there (except for religious beliefs).

I have never ever heard of any health issues from non-circumcised grown-up male. I think it is a cultural/religious thing, so as it is not mine, will never cross my mind!

OP, my story is quite similar to bubbabailey's. We had our son circ'd but won't do it again if we have another son. Pm me if you want details.

I'm not doing it because I think he should look like his daddy
I'm not doing it because anyone is forcing me into it.
I am doing it because after working in the health field and seeing what can happen if they're not being looked after properly I feel it is cleaner.
I don't look down on ANYONE for ANY opinion they make for their little boy.

I have discussed the pro's and con's of it with my DF and we both equally feel that this is the right move for us and our little one.

I don't understand why this topic is always made into a war. It doesn't affect anyone else but my son, and it really shouldn't be such an issue to others.

I respect people's decision either way they go. They are the parent. They do what they feel is right for their family.

I hope people can start respecting each others opinions a little more as -as far as I know- Bubhub is a place where we can come, not to feel judged by fellow TTC'ers or Parents, but to feel supported by people going through the same things as us.
This thread has been quite tame and respectful IMO.

Posts like yours always make me wonder if the parent really is comfortable with the decision they have made...

Do you feel that way solely because you are in the minority? No-one is saying that people are bad parents for circumcising their sons.

To answer your question OP no, no, no, no, no, no,....and NO! IMO it is mutilation so I have never considered it for a moment.

I feel very strongly against circumcision if you can't tell
