    Default Which would you choose?

We're about to start building a house and will have timber floors to the main living area, dining area, kitchen and hall.

We have two options of timber-

Beech, which we love the look of and the price is good
    Or
Blackbutt, which both the builder and floor man said they'd choose as it's harder so less likely to mark. Don't love the colour as much, though DH does, but the fact that it's harder appeals to us when we have kids - things will drop and get dragged no doubt. The blackbutt is $1000 more and we could get it but it would be tighter financially as it would have to be paid for out of our pocket.

    Which would you choose?

I personally prefer the look of blackbutt - have you seen them when the are polished beautifully and look impeccable? Stunning!!
I would opt for what ever will last/look better for longer!!

Honestly, if you want something that will last, I'd go timber look vinyl planks. Check out the karndeen art select range. My in laws have this and it looks just like timber but easier to maintain and lasts longer. But to answer your question, blackbutt

We have blackbutt, however, we've stained it a really dark colour. It's lovely timber though.

Thanks everyone, I think we will go with blackbutt and just be a little broke for a few weeks!

If it is not a pre-finished product and requires sanding and polishing you can request that it be coated with a non yellowing water based coating and it lightens the timber and doesn't yellow.
