Default So much vomit - help with losec

    Hi,

Im desperate for advice, my little one(7.5wks)e has been diagnosed with reflux, the dr has prescribed 2.5ml of the liquid losec. The problem is he is a huge vomiter (regurgitater)and I'm finding it so hard to get him to keep it down. I don't know the best time to give it (currently just before his second feed) and I don't know how to stop him from bringing it back up. I'm holding him upright straight after for as long as he will let me. He is also extremely distressed when I give it to him and then I get stressed.

Is it only one a day? Give it 20 min before a feed that was it has time to be absorbed before feeding and vomiting it all up. Hang in there. Reflux kids are tough work.

Yep, I give it once a day. I probably give it ten mins before but I'll try to stretch it out. Thanks for the advice I change his clothes at least 5times a day...so sick of ppl telling me that as long as he is putting on weigh he will be fine, but it's just so distressing for him and us!

I know exactly how you feel. All 3 of my kids had/have reflux. The youngest being so severe. He'd now 2 and still really bad. I broke down crying one day at the drs - I had no clothes as he had vomited on me so many times. He's in so much pain it's horrible.

You could also ask the dr if you could give 2 smaller doses?
Feel free to pm me - I'm self professed queen of vomit and reflux.

You poor thing my son was sick twice yesterday and I found that stressful, no matter if his putting on weight or not it's still tuff for you and bubs!

I work in a chemist n see lots of babies who have it and I would stretch it out and even give bub half the bottle then a gap and then the rest.
Keep up your good work it will only get better!

    It's really tough isn't it.

I try to give the Losec at least 20minutes before a feed.

Did the doc tell you to try infant gaviscon too? I've found that great.

Are you breast or bottle feeding? Are you using AR formula?

ETA I split my 2ml doses into 2 - one morning and one evening.

Thanks everyone for the advice, it's good to know there are some options!

Im exclusively breast feeding and hoping to stay that way if I can.

No, Dr didn't mention gaviscon but perhaps I'll talk to the chemist.

Someone suggested that perhaps splitting the dose in two may make
    the
dose inaffective, does anyone know if this is true?

Also, I know there is lots of talk about chiro's but does anyone know if they are good at minimizing the vomiting?

    Thanks again, much appreciated xx

Both my babies had severe reflux. It really is a nightmare. My paed put mine on 2.5 twice a day on the thinking that if some comes back up they would still be covered. That said, if the loser is being digested 10 minutes before a feed it should be in there long enough to have some effect. My experience is that even with medication really young babies are incredibly unsettled and hard work with reflux. I've spent about 6 weeks in total in a mother baby unit with my son it's been so difficult. Try and get/accept as much help as you can. Each day you get through is getting closer to them improving xx

Oh and my son is now 7 months and although he's not in horrible reflux pain anymore he still throws up milk constantly on everyone and everything. We are constantly covered in his vomit. The losec won't stop the vomit. Only the pain associated with it.

Chiro definitely helped my youngest. It's definitely worth a try. I still take him now once a month just for fine tuning. The vomiting had eased.

    Hang in there.
