I actually think the medical issues are highly relevant, as a 5 year old with sensory issues biting is a different kettle of fish entirely from your average 5 year old biting.
I'm even more against the idea of hurting them to stop them biting if they have medical issues. My 7 year old has sensory issues and doesn't bite, but chews her clothes constantly - if she was a biter I would be furious if someone did that to her to convince her to stop. Humiliating her and hurting her just makes her more anxious which makes the sensory seeking worse, not better!
That's a great website you linked to Misschief! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've just ordered some bracelets. Its exactly what my DD needs.
I agree. If there is already a pre-existing mental issue, biting them would be futile. They don't do it to be naughty, they do it because their senses are overloaded. DS wouldn't know WHY I tried to hurt him if I tried to bite him or make him bite himself. He would just cry which would break my heart and make me feel terribly guilty
You're welcomeThat's a great website you linked to Misschief! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've just ordered some bracelets. Its exactly what my DD needs.Does your DD see an OT at all? It was the OT at Early Intervention who got me to order some things off this website.
I have the P's and Q's and also ordered 1 meter of heavy strength chewy tube that I turned into a necklace for him to wear at daycare.
It beats having to cut up old t-shirts of mine every month, as I have ran out of old t-shirts![]()
