Anyone with experience of this and their bubs. My 5wk old us now in ICU for the second day.
My son is 2,
He got a cold at 3 weeks then very ill at 7 weeks, we were transfered to a bigger hospital as we are from a small town,
A nasal swab thing confirmed rsv and the peads said he had bronchiolitis as well,
We spent 1 week in hospital, 5 days on oxygen and 3 nil by mouth.
*hugs* it is so scary when they are that little.

Hugs you poor thing, that is very scary.
RSV is a nasty virus that causes bronchiolitis, it's quite common and it's also the most common virus that causes babies with bronch to end up very unwell - with apnoeas commonly (pauses in breathing).
I have been a paeds nurse for years and am racking my brains but can't think of any babies that have not recovered fully from RSV bronch despite being very unwell and being in ICU and intubated.
Very tiny babies are also prone to getting more unwell as they just don't have the reserve to remember to keep breathing they get so tuckered out.
But rest assured your son is in the absolute best place possible, hopefully he will be on the mend soon. What day is he??
DS had bronchiolitis when he was 7 weeks old. We spent 4 days in hospital - 2 days nasal gastric tube, 3 days oxygen then the last day was monitored. It was scary and exhausting but he made a full recovery and has never had anything like it since (he is nearly 6).
A friend's bub had bronchiolitis a few months before my son did. She was 3 months old and was on oxygen for a week. She had it very badly but also fully recovered and is now a thriving 6 year old.
All the best to you and your bub. Hang in there.

Thanks all for your replies. It's day 3 in ICU. Still on oxygen and fed via nasal tube. My little girl is improving slowly. Back to full feeds via the tube
I'm pumping madly as my supply has tanked due to stress. On molitium for that. Anyone have this problem?
My youngest spent a week in hospital when he was six weeks with rsv. Four days on oxygen but was still feeding luckily. It's an awful virusI was told day 5 is usually when they hit the lowest then pick up from there. Glad to hear your DD is improving.

"..consequences dictate, course of action then it, doesn't matter what's right, It's only wrong if you get caught.."
My supply did drop, i was pumping but found it to stressful as ds would scream for the milk whenever i pumped.
We started with 5 minute nursing sessions, i was lucky that i had major over supply

Hi again. Yes my supply went down as I was was exhausted. Fortunately I had already been expressing at home before DS got sick and had a stash in the freezer which DH brought in. They then sent me home for a proper nights sleep and DH stayed with him. After 9 solid hours sleep I went back in with very full breasts. Is there any chance you can go home and have a proper rest?
