    Default Smoking while pregnant?

I have been reading this. Yes I need a life. And apparently 1 in 7 mothers smoked during pregnancy.
I did. But I thought it would be much more uncommon

I know a couple of people who did, they cut way down from like 20 a day to 1 a day. But couldn't seem to kick the last one. It is an addiction and it is hard and sometimes the doctor say that it is 'too stressful to quit altogether and so just cut down as much as you can apparently'.

Both my husband and I smoked through both my previous pregnancies. My first I cut down from 40 a day to maybe 5, 6 at the most. Second I didn't cut down at all. As a pp mentioned, my dr actually told me not to quit completely, just cut down as much as possible.

I'm now 35 weeks pregnant with number 3 and haven't touched a smoke in 6 months. Hubby still smokes though.

That is a lot more common than I'd expect.

I used to be a smoker (from the age of 13), so had been smoking for 20 years when I first fell pregnant.

I stopped cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant. I just told myself I couldn't smoke (like being on an airplane) to get through the first few days. After that, I visualised a baby coughing in utero whenever I felt a craving. I know how hard it can be to stop but it is so worth it . I wish there was more free support available for those who need help to stop. Life is so much better as a non smoker.

I smoked through mine. I was under so much stress with an alcoholic father, suicidal mother towards the end plus work in the first 6mths of being pregnant i didnt know what to do.

I had my days where i smoked little but i also smoked alot. I remember lighting up 1hr before i had DS at home and had to vomit as it made me sick.

I'm amazed that it's so common. My colleague smoked quite a bit through her pregnancies. Her youngest has lots of health problems as a result and even a common cold or flu can put him in hospital (has had to be revived once).

I know it's hard to quit but I hope most women at least cut right down while pregnant. I so wish there was an easy fix and the world was free of cigarettes!! They do so much damage
