Default Paperwork after baby is born

I have done the centrelink claim online (ftb/baby bonus) and they've asked for proof of birth. Obviously don't have his birth certificate and I've only just lodged those forms today but apparently I can take in the newborn ppl claim form that I got in hospital.

Should I take it to centrelink or to medicare/family assistance office? I did all DD2s stuff at the medicare/family assistance, better than sitting in the local centrelink for 2 hrs while they do their 'quick appointment' system.

And since I've done it all online, do I have to actually fill that form out or can I just take it in since its got the hospital stamp and stuff that says he was actually born?

Tried ringing centrelink. Not only was the FAO line disconnected (repeatedly) I sat on hold to another department in the hopes of being transferred for over an hour. Helpful.

Thank you for any information you can offer. I thought it was straightforward but I may still be suffering baby brain and didn't read something somewhere that told me where.

How utterly bizarre. I am in the *exact* same situation & have been wondering the exact same thing today after calling FAO & being informed the wait was greater than 35 minutes (needless to say I hung up....).

I'm going to take my chance on the FAO/Medicare office and hope they accept a blank form with just the proof of birth bit filled in.

I took it into Medicare, but it needs to be fully filled in. That was the biggest pain. You'd think that filling in the stuff online for ppl before the birth would mean I wouldn't need to fill in the paperwork afterwards, but not true unfortunately. Some sections don't need to be filled in, but you start at the start of the huge stupid form and work your way through, skipping bits when instructed to do so.

The advantage of going into Medicare is that you get a new Medicare card too and it registers the birth for Centrelink/etc. I went in with the filled in form and I was probably only there for 20 minutes or so in total, so it was nice & quick, which with a new bub is always good.

Alright, well I'll take my chance at Medicare and start on the form.

    Thank you for replies.
