    Talking Mackay Mummies

    Hi all.

Im a rare poster but would like some info about the mackay region as I'll be moving up there with my partner and 2yr old son at the end of the year. Info such as Childcare, jobs that are always offered, rental prices, best suburbs of mackay and even your thoughts on best education on offer I'm just trying to get as much knowledge as I can and would appreciate any info and advice I can get.

We moved here from uk in nov.

Childcare- the childcare centres look really good- from the bits I can see from the outside. But waiting lists are long so best to get your name down now if you think you will be needed them.

When I've looked for part time work there seems to be a lot around. It depends what you want to do. I've heard theres a surplus of admin staff due to miners moving here with partners - and them looking for work to fill in school time hours etc. but if you have any other skill to add I think there generally in high demand. Alternatively theres lots of advertisements for coffee shops/shops/bws type shops etc that pay really well. Some coffee shops paying $24/ hour.

We live up at northern beaches area. We like it up here as endless supply of beaches and little cafes with play areas for little ones- jivoli, double portion cafe, porters, and of course maccas.

One think for sure if u live out of the city centre like we do- you need a car as there's only one bus that does a round trip from here to town and feels like it goes round the world.

The big shopping centre- Canelands is great with loads of new shops.

There lots of woolies and Coles supermarkets.

There's generally something going on on a weekend e.g, a fun day for this or that.

It's def a good place for families with young children.

My daughter is in prep here and the school seems great- a little to open for my liking and not as secure as we are used to but they assure me the child's safety is not at risk.

Let me know if anything else specific? Xx
