Sorry didn't mean to offend, i have friends there so Just speaking from personal experience and probably generalizing , I unfortunately witnessed the riots as we were eating at Summersalt that sunday when my Lebanese girlfriend had rocks and beer cans thrown at her when she left the restaurant - those people made me very very ashamed to be Australian that day, again just my experience but I would never live there

I heard the mayor of the Shire on the radio, she was totally appalled and petitioning for them to get rid of the show.

Elijah's Mum isn't saying everyone in the Shire is like that. Just that that is the collective reputation - especially in other parts of Sydney.

Of course the program won't be representative of everyone who lives there. In the same way Jersey Shore or The Hills or any of The Real Housewives series aren't representative of everyone who lives in those areas. It would be no fun if they were

I also assume they are obviously going to pick controversial/ outspoken people that will probably make it look a lot worse than it is ( like Sylvania Waters) as I'm sure they want the ratings!

Thank you. It makes me ashamed to say I grew up there. It was revolting and I'm very sorry u were there to witness it. There is a wide variety of people who reside in the shire as there is with every area. It saddens me to think that people stereotype so easily.

As a non-native Sydney-sider I am quite fascinated by the tribes and the extent to which where someone lives or grew up or went to school defines them to other Sydney-siders.

Recently there was a TV show that was HUGE in NZ, called 'The GC', about Kiwi's living 'the good life' on the Gold Coast.

It was supposed to be like Jersey Shore/Geordie Shore, but I think it was much better.

Anyway, lots of people hated it and were embarrassed about the image it portrayed, but it has a market and was really successful. I wouldn't be surprised if 'The Shire' went the same way.

Will be glad when masterchef is over so I can avoid watching channel 10 and seeing The Shire add every 5 minutes.
