Default I'm speechless at the ignorance

A friend of a friends facebook status reared its amazing head in my news feed this morning:

"Have just read that doctors are suggesting pregnant woman & new mothers stay at home because all of the (selfish - i added that part) people out there who do not vaccinate their children. It's bad enough they choose to put their own children at risk but it SUCKS that they put new born baby's too young for the vaccination at risk also. SELFISH!!!!"

The comments were even more ... amazing.

I wouldn't necessarily stay at home, but I do believe that unless there is a medical reason not to vax, then it is selfish.

My dr has told me that...

I know quite a few kids through my newphews school who all had whooping cough (unvax kids). I know thar you can get it from adults (I caught it) but I wouldn't take a newborn baby near unvaccinated kids if u can help it.

    Each to their own though.

Maybe they should tell all the unvacce'd people and children to stay home instead, since they're the disease spreaders....

On a sidenote regarding vaccinations - It still amazes me that ignorant people out there think they know better than the scientists and medical profession! - do they not have any idea how many years of work and study these professionals put in? Ten years at the very least. I tend to think they know better than me.

I don't understand why people carry on like unvaxed kids are the devils spawn when most adults are not up to date with vaccination and spreading things around themselves? Most babies who get WC get it from their parents or grandparents who were due for a booster years ago- not from some unvaccinated random child at the shopping centre!

I tend to agree, my GP has been a family dr for over 30 years and she's very sharp any always onto the latest research. She said she has treated many autistic children who were not vacinnated, and has seen some very bad results for little babies catching diseases.

Each person is definitely entitled to their own opinion and you have to do what is right for your child. I don't know if you can always call a choice or statement ignorant, just because you don't agree with it. A lot of people who DO vax do a lot of research before they make a choice, so its not always flying blind.

who said they are the devil spawn? If you have a new born baby, its not unreasonable to want to protect it from getting WC.
