Default 4 general questions regarding pregnancy

    Hi guys

Im 10 weeks today (yayyy!). This is my third pregnancy (one m/c, an 8 year old and now).

    Anyway.

My DP is in hospital and Ive been doing the household things on my own while he obviously isnt here. Ive just got an hour to be alone and rest and I just got thinking....so I apologise if these seem silly, dumb or that im panicking but Id just like to hear from you all.

    Question 1: Lifting:
I went to the supermarket and we usually buy bottled water. I picked up one of the 15L containers and even though it was heavy I still did it, in the trolley, out of the trolley, into the car and home. I have had some spotting early in the pregnancy but not for about 2 weeks. Do you think I might have done any damage to the baby?? I know its too late if I have but now Im worrying.... (not spotting or anything though).

    Question 2: Cravings:
When do these usually start? I bought a BBQ chicken for dinner (so I wont need to cook) and I was into it before Id even unpacked the rest. I just felt like I 'needed' it!!!! I wondered if this was a craving..... or just me needing it!

    Question 3: Cat Litter:
Ive had to do the litter as well. Ive made sure Ive had 2 sets of disposable gloves on, and used a scoop- so not touched it at any stage and of course I have washed my hands afterwards. Would this be alright?

    Question 4: Bras.
I am pretty small in this 'region' (B cup usually) and even though my boobs have become a little bigger, my bras still fit comfortably. They are underwire though. Is this a problem? When should I go to non underwire? Im worried I wont have enough to even hold the shape of a non underwire bra.... they'd be all saggy and.... well not very 'pretty'.

So thanks for letting me ramble/ panic/ freak with my silly questions.

    Look forward to your answers.

Q1 ... Be careful and conscious of heavy lifting ... I am 15 wks and still have to lift up 14kg dd and 17kg ds ... I think our bodies are capable of it because once you have children you have to pick them up but just be very aware when you do it. BUT if you are a high risk pregnancy then no don't do it.

Q2 I have no idea lol

Q3 I would be hesitant to touch cat litter lots of bad stuff in there for baby even if you are taking protective measures ... Seems like a great reason to make dh do it for the next few months

Q4 you need to get maternity bras they will give you shape and support. I wouldn't be concerned till your bras are uncomfortable ... I'm still wearing underwire

    Hi HW
I know you from our Feb thread, I'm 10 weeks too and also had bleeding a few weeks ago although sadly I'm still spotting a bit.
Anyway, with the lifting I prob wouldn't do it again although I'm sure you are fine now and don't worry about it.
My ob told me to take it easy, meaning no vacuuming or mopping due to the bleeding. woohoo hahaha

Cravings come at any time! Mine has been naughty stuff like whopper juniors and chocolate haha.
Cat litter I'm to sure I don't have a cat sorry! But it's one of those things it has to be done I guess so as long as you do it safely, which it sounds like you are, I'm sure it will be fine!

With bras wait until it feels tight and then go and get a new one. Maybe maternity or at least without an underwire.
I wore underwire until quite late in my first pregnancy only because I never got around to shopping for a new one! It didn't cause any probs.

Glad you are ok now regarding the spotting. It's terrifying I know.
Hanging out for 12 week scan now.
Last pregnancy that's when we found big probs with the bub that is sadly no longer with us so naturally I'm really scared.
See you round the feb thread gorgeous xxxxx

Question 1: Lifting: Probably best to avoid lifting too much heavy stuff if possible but think of all the mums out there with a small age gap between their kids - they have still lifted and carried their toddlers while pregnant so you should be fine

Question 2: Cravings: Are usually random things and basically a feeling of 'just needing' something - so yeah it was probably a craving. Some people never have cravings though.

Question 3: Cat Litter: The danger with cat litter is inhaling the spores from the faeces, not touching the litter itself. It's a small percentage of cats that carry the spores within their faecal matter anyway so it's a small chance but still, to be careful, I would see if someone else could do the cat litter or always do it outside and NEVER stand directly over the bag/bin that you're tipping the used litter into.

Question 4: Bras.: no idea what the proper answer is to this but I wore an underwire bra throughout both of my pregnancies.

Hope this helps - and CONGRATULATIONS

I was a b size before I got pregnant.. They then blew up to a d size. I got a couple of maternity bras to see me through the pregnancy, which still fit me now (they were a bit tight when my milk first came in but not too bad). I would go for comfort. I know they don't reccomend underwire when you are breastfeeding.

I had no cravings as such but there were lots if things l couldn't eat because they made me throw up!!

With the cat litter you should be fine as you probably have antibodies to toxoplasmosis already but l got my DH to do it just to be in the safe side (good excuse to get out of it!!)

Q1 - Do not stress! I wouldn't do it again but don't worry too much about it.
Q2 - I didn't get many real cravings, only the "I want to have it" feeling.
Q3 - Again, don't stress. Try to get DP to do it, but otherwise what you're doing sounds ok.
Q4 - Trust me they will grow lol. Underwire will get uncomfortable but until then you should be ok to keep wearing them.

I also make DH do the cat litter. If you absolutely MUST try and do it as soon as kitty goes. I read that its only after its been exposed to air for 24 hours that the toxoplasmosis (sp) develops.

Regarding cravings, just be careful with bbq chickens, I always heat mine up in the microwave first to steaming hot to be sure to get rid of any bacteria, you don't know how hot they are keeping them so it could be a breeding ground... first one I had in pregnancy I threw it all up afterwards, and did the same when I unknowingly had a wendys thickshake that had soft serve in it... I think my body knew straight away and rejected it!

    Congratulations by the way

Hello and congrats on your pregnancy!!

I had spotting early on so I know how much you are probably stressing right now!!

    1. Lifting, I think you would know by now if you had done any damage (more spotting, cramping etc) 2 weeks after I had spotting I went for a big run (silly I know, but needed the stress release) anyway, as soon as I got home I started cramping and I knew I had done some damage, and 2 days later spotted brown blood.

    2. Cravings. I got them from 6 weeks this time! I am like an animal with sweet chilli sauce and greasy food. So bad but so good!! BBQ chicken sounds good!

    3. Cat litter. Sounds like you are doing the right things! You poor thing, with DH in hospital you mustn't have any other option.

    4. Bras. I'm small in that area usually too, but getting bigger every day! Still in my normal bras, just the strechier ones! Will buy maternity bras at around 35 weeks, although I might need some more to get me through until then! Just wear what feels comfortable.

Goodluck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Everything I read said gloves and handwashing so I hope Ive done the right thing.
