Default spin off - have you ever won or been gifted money?

no need to say how much or from whom, I just wonder if you have ever been gifted or won money - an amount that was substancial to you and made an impact/improved a situation/allowed you to do something you wouldn't have otherwise been able to do?

    just curious...

I wish I continue to hope for it one day

...Actually I just remembered I went into Centrelink to change DHs income a month ago and found out that I was owed rent assisstance for the last year even though last year they told me I wasn't entitled to it. So we got the arrears paid out to us a few days later which enabled us to finish paying off a debt. It was $2,500 so not millions of dollars but it felt huge to us because we just never see large lump sums like that! We felt so grateful and lucky

we got given $5000 from inlaws as a wedding gift.

We havent spent it yet. Its too much to fritter away on day to day stuff, but not enough to do anything important with! Not enough for a new car or a holiday or to reduce the mortgage or to do some house renovations.

    I wish, lol.

I doubt we will receive any inheritance either.

eta: although given I don't gamble, I guess I can't complain about not winning money.

Yes. My husband got about 10k (it was about 7000/8000 irish pounds at the time) from his grandmother, but he only got it about 12 months ago. We also got given 7.5k from the inlaws when we got married.

    Not me.

My friend has just gone to live in London after receiving $30k inheritance from her grandma's estate.

I have been gifted large sums several times (from family). We are very lucky in that respect.

Have never won money, but then again, you have to be in it to win it.
