Proposed changes to the QLD Surrogacy Act 2010

For those of you who haven't heard in the media - the new LNP government in Queensland is looking to amend the current surrogacy act to not only stop gay and single people having a family through surrogacy, but make it a criminal offense punishable with 3 years in prison!!! In addition to this they are repealing lesbian couple's rights to have both mother's names on their child's birth certificate. It is obvious that this is out right discrimination.

Amendments to the Queensland Surrogacy Act 2010

Get everyone you know to sign it. Share the link on Facebook, drop the link into your next door neighbours letter box and email it to everyone in your contact's list. The LNP have now come out and said they have a mandate to change this law because the Australian Christian Lobby have a big following and they all support changes to be made to this act.

I made an appointment with the Minister at my university (ACU) last Monday and even he agreed that the ACL were taking this too far. Please take 2 mins to have your say and stop the discrimination. If I had waited just 2 years to have the twins for M & J we could have all gone to prison for what we had done. How does something given altruistically be accompanied with a prison sentence?!?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Surrogacy is when one woman carries a baby for someone else with the intention that the baby doesn't belong to her. Altruistic surrogacy is done in Australian. That means the surrogate does it for no financial gain or reward

Campbell Newman is the worst of the worst lying politicians. Love how he says (in response to his promise not to repeal any of the legislation regarding gay/lesbian/bi/transgender civil unions - and I guess by extension the surrogacy laws) that he didn't understand what he was promising pre-election because the party didn't tell him about it due to decisions having been made before he was LNP leader.

As if it's not bad enough that gays/lesbians/singles get no financial reimbursement federally through Medicare for ART to have a baby.

This was utterly foreseeable. And impossible to do anything about with the total wipeout of labour. Will sign this petition for sure but not holding my breath.

Rachel, I saw the article in the Sunday Mail today. I think it's a wonderful thing you have done. M & J are very lucky to have found you. I think they hit the nail on the head when they said it's just so sad that a government elected with a huge majority mandate have chosen to target a minority issue which hurts no one.

The recent changes to the Civil Partnerships Act (now renamed) and proposed changes to the Surrogacy Act are a blatant right wing conservative attack on gay and lesbian people in Queensland. It's really appalling what is happening in Queensland at the moment, and it's grim times as we are probably stuck with this government for several terms now.
