Default Prem baby head size to make beanies

    Hi

I would really appreciate it if you could comment the diameter and at how many weeks your bub was born. Sounds odd I realise but I am knitting beanies for prems and am not sure on the size ranges to make.
I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.

    Thanks

28cm at 34wks, but this is more the size of a 31-32wk'er, my bub was esp small for gestational age. Good on you for knitting them ~ it's an important community service. I received about 4 when bub was in hospital, as he outgrew them and they needed washing. Some of them were knitted so beautifully, and all the ones I knitted were way too big for him. They have just been sent to Q'land for a Hubber's premmie.

How wonderful of you we had some pretty cool beanies while in hospital, some with Pom poms and 3 pointed jester ones haha. Anyway to your question my dd was born at 25 weeks and her head circumference was 21cm enjoy your knitting!

Thanks for you responses. It gives me a much better idea of how big to make them. Glad to hear you liked the different beanies as I have been making a few that a quite bright and was hoping parents would like them.

Adearl, definitely bright ones ~ you get sick of everything in pastel and white, and they make your baby more distinctive and give them more personality, and your bub is easier to recognise. I'm not a pom-pom style person, but I love the little pointy elf hats. The lovely thing about knitting for prems other than hoew appreciated the item is, is how quick they are to knit, being so little! There is also a good chance your item will become a treasured keepsake.

We have some gorgeous tiny, tiny booties with pearl buttons from the Mercy Hospital. It's really hard to find booties small enough for prems, so any of those you can knit would be well coveted, too.

    28wks with 26.6 hc

There were much smaller babies in there too.

The ladies who hand out the knitted goodies said they use doll patterns if that is any help.
