Default School Kids bonus question - anyone?

We have received the school kids bonus for DS. Technically he should have started school this year but we have held him back and he will be starting next year. Should we have got the bonus? One part of the letter reads that it is for "primary school children" yet another part states "The payment is worked out using the number of school aged children in your family".

Did anyone get this bonus for a child that isn't in school?

Yes. My boy is in the same boat. born before July 1 but could have gone to school this year but we have him in pre school.

As long as he turned 5 before the cut off you were entitled to the payment.

I did. Some internet research i did said that it would be paid for all children turning 6 before 30 June 2013, which fits my DS. I figure that means I'm gettting it in advance for next year? Could be wrong. I've been meaning to go in to family assistance but haven't had time.

I thought it was if your child turns 6 before 30 june as most kids are in school them across the country.

nah that's 6 before June 30 2013 Some kids do go to school at 4 and turn 5 a few months later which is why they pay.

The June Schoolkids Bonus was paid to eligible families with children aged 5 by 31 July 2012. Kids start school at different ages in different states and we didn’t want anybody to miss out. You won’t have to pay the money back.

From next year, families will just need to let Centrelink know when their child is starting school so they can get their Schoolkids Bonus instalments.

If you are eligible for FTB Part A, you will be eligible for a SchoolKids Bonus instalment of $205 in January before you child starts school. This means you’ll have the money on hand to cover the starting school expenses.

Centrelink will be sending letters out to eligible families with children younger than six later this year which will tell you what you need to do to receive the Schoolkids Bonus in January.
