Default How did you tell extended family?

Today I am telling my extended family (aunts, uncles & cousins) that we are expecting! How did everybody else's share the news? One side of the family I'll see today but the other side I won't, is an email appropriate for those we won't see face to face?

Mostly we told people face to face or by phone. My parents we told face to face. DH's parents we told over the phone as they live interstate. Extended rellies and close friends we told face to face if we saw them and phone/text if we didn't. Then aquaintances we told mostly online eg email/facebook.
