Dh and I got dd a little charm bracelet on her 1st bday and she already has so many charms. We told family to buy her charms for presents instead of toys cos she already has so many! (of course she ends up getting both!)
It will be nice to look back and explain them to her when she is older. We have written down where they are from so we remember.

I received a charm bracelet from my nan for my birth, on my first birthday I received a lock, every subsequent birthday I received a charm or when they went on a holiday.
It is a precious and irreplaceable object.
Toys really??? Children have way too many toys.

I agree. Kids end up with so many toys especially if you are having a big birthday party. I think it's lovely to get something that'll have sentimental value that they can treasure for the rest of their lives

I think a charm bracelet like the others mentioned is a lovely idea. Also the carousel sounds nice too. For me personally "babies first diamond" just sounds really silly to me, almost giving the whole spoilt brat feel, even though I know that's not how it would be intended.

Something that she can keep and treasure would be great, we brought DS a set of Blinky Bill 2011 coins and have put them aside for him till he is much older.

That's true. But I don't think Baby's first diamond is a particularly sentimental sentence. Nothing wrong with giving jewellery, but I personally think that's a bit tacky.

I like the idea of a bracelet, a ceramic music box could be broken by a little one. But the 'Baby's first diamond' thing is a little cheesy imo. I'd get a plain ID bangle (or even one with a diamond in it) with your DD's name engraved on it, or something like that instead.

Yep agree. I would probably more so go with engraving baby's name and birthday or something along the lines..
