We live on a farm now so no need for a sign but at our old house we had a sign that said.

    Please no door knockers
(this includes: salespeople, charities and religious callers)
    Thank you

    RmumR that sounds reasonable...

I just have this mental image of my DoNotKnock sticker, plus another sign beside it, plus some cut out hands pointing to it (in the style of the Coles red hand thingy)...

Then for good measure I might as well add some barbed wire, change the doorbell chime to a doberman snarl and add a few flashing lights, a portcullis and maybe a crocodile infested moate...

D'ya think they would get the message then???!!!

In answer to your question, charities do not have the right to access your property as, say, a meter reader does (tacit law). When you ask them to leave and they continue to engage you then they are trespassing and you can prosecute. The same applies if they ignore the sign but they can counter this by saying they couldn't read it.

My DH and I were approached by a rather zealous couple selling electricity. When I said I wasn't interested, they asked for my bill (NEVER give it to them!) and when I requested they leave my property, they continued to engage.

Finally, I threatened trespass and they eventually left but sat outside my house as what I took to be an intimidatory tactic. So I took their photo and then rang the Energy Ombudsman and reported their asses. The EO was fantastic. Within days I had an apology from the company directly and an undertaking from them that they would not harrass my family.

I would urge you to report this woman as I am pretty sus when people engage children. That's just not on in my book. The more people report, the less likely this invasive mode of selling will continue because hawkers (and I include charities in this because they are selling you a line) are getting far too cheeky these days.

Spaghetti, thanks. I wasn't always this way. In fact, I used to be quite timid.
    Then I had children.

I am seriously thinking of putting a sign up saying "if you don't know me, please don't knock for me"

Can I ask where people get their signs from? did you make them yourselves or buy them?

    Lol @ all these replies
I can't pick which one I'd rather put up... Would 20 signs leading up the driveway be overkill???
